I had a birthday!

IMAG0267-1

And I’m two number two candles old!

I started the day with work. 8:45 to 4:15 not that bad. Bradley made my favorite breakfast. Oats and Honey granola, almond milk and cut strawberries. I was running late and I have my hair to blame. My hair tie snapped, and my first bun wasn’t big enough. I wore my favorite scarf. The coral and cream colored one with gaudy prints of costume jewelry on it. I wore my favorite boots too. The ones I got on my birthday last year.

Christmas happenings

Let me just tell you, working in retail is not good for your blog. Especially at Christmas time. Serious apologies to my little space on the Internet.

Since I had to work like a maniac and couldn’t come home for Christmas, my in laws came to us! It wouldn’t have been Christmas without some family, for sure. Brad hadn’t seen his parents since the Christmas before, so he was looking forward to spending time with them since I stayed with them twice this year without him. We went out to dinner with them, took them to Rexburg’s finest restaurants (lol) brad gave them a tour of the campus, they all visited me at work, we played lots and lots of cards, and just enjoyed being with family.

We celebrated Brad’s Birthday by making a big breakfast with eggs, baked potato coins, waffles and oj! I loooove breakfast! We watched The Dream works Christmas short movies, and he opened his gifts! He received a one piece bum flap long johns, a stud finder, seek and find book, a drill, and a batman encyclopedia. Look at those goofy smiles :]

Christmas time 2011 006Christmas time 2011 008Christmas time 2011 010Christmas time 2011 013

He said the only thing he’s found with his stud finder is his self. Ha!

I made him Funfetti cupcakes, since those are his  favorite. We celebrated with cake and ice cream that night at his aunts house where we played bingo for prizes and played some more cards!

I really missed my family and I wish we could have gone home for Christmas so bad. My parents sent us a box of presents, and I’ve already used them like crazy! My mom knew my love for salad spinners and got me my very first one, as well as the Babycakes vegan, gluten and sugar free cookbook. So far I’ve made the gingerbread and ate half the loaf by myself. No shame!

We made our Christmas tree and ornaments ourselves, since last year we didn’t have a tree because we went to Washington. And who wants to spend $30 on a tree that doesn’t even smell anymore because it’s dried out? who want’s to spend almost as much on a fake tree that smells like plastic and vinyl? certainly not us.  We’re a fan of dumpsters, it’s amazing what people throw away. I found a heavy bottomed pot once. I didn’t keep it because I already have one and I might just make brad crazy..but seriously? who throws that away? take it to the DI people! Anyway, someone bought a tree too big and threw the bottom portion in the dumpster where we found it while taking out the trash. Brad, being the crafty handyman that he is chopped it up, zip tied it together and we had a tree! We also blew up water balloons, made mod podge, and with the help of fabric, glitter and tinsel, we had ornaments!

We also had our own little Ms. Clause. I hope your holidays were swell!

Boxes and Froyo, ya’ll. Boxes and Froyo.

The biggest snowflakes I think I have ever seen. | Eating dinner at Da Pineapple Grill. No really, it’s called “Da” and this was the best picture we got. Every time we take a picture, my camera puts a box over brads face and asks, “Did someone blink?” Oh no, he just has small eyes? So you get one brad eye. | Cake batter, Red Velvet, Green Apple, Raspberry, and Vanilla froyo at Kiwi Loco. With everything from cheesecake to nerds. We are not so good at this sort of thing. We’ve been spoiled with Cold Stone. Let us choose from a menu where someone has done the “hard work” of tasting flavor combinations for us, please. We know our place. | Watching one of my favorite movies at Kiwi Loco. Better known to me as, “Nine-ning McKeen Movie…caaar.” Want to know what Madagascar is called? “Maga-dascar..I like to move it, move it.” | The view from the couch. Oh you like my new ottoman? It’s a cardboard box full of Pyrex glassware [fancy] and topped with a pillow. I’ve been watching HGTV, can you tell?

We’re moving on Tuesday. This is the ninth time I’ve moved since I could remember moving. Third time I’ve moved down the street, so what I’m getting as is, I’ve got serious packing skills. Serious enough to put on my resume. Thanks mom and dad!

For your information, I totally impressed Brad with my Draco Malfoy impression the other night. They should have hired me for that character. In fact, maybe I’ll  get into character while moving the perfectly boxed boxes. That’ll really impress him. Skills, people.

Speaking of HP, I was making dinner the other night and found a very special noodle AS Brad was reading Harry Potter. There’s no such thing as coincidence.

Have I ever told you

that I married a pretty cool man? Did I ever tell you that he’s pretty good at thrifting? Well now you know, and now you’re jealous. He’s pretty dapper. Which is like, the highest compliment anyone could ever give a man. You should see him on Sundays…the man is dapper. Just don’t give him the googley eyes, he gets enough of that at wal mart.

Does this man look familiar? He should. It’s the Don Draper. He’s the definition of dapper.

And how do dapper men shave?

What a coincidence.

shave, food 007

Dapper men shave with these;

razor 001

This one is a Gillette TTO (Twist To Open,) or Butterfly razor. Only razors made before 1921 have serial numbers and this one didn’t have one on the handle, so we can only assume when it was made. But the type of stars printed on it remind me of late fifties, early sixties. The top opens from the center and a double edged razor sits in the middle.

earrings, soup 008

This one is a Gillette Safety Razor, it happens to be made in 1911. The double edged razor sits in between two plates that the handle screws into. The silver case holds the blades.

razor 002

He started shaving this way after we got tired of paying for dang expensive razors 16.99 for four razor blades? And he had been debating buying one for awhile and once we found one at the antique shop, he had to have it. He loves it. It takes longer to shave, but his skin in the smoothest I’ve ever felt it. He even let me mix his soap once, it made me feel special. Did I mention how cheap it is to shave this way? We found the razors at an antique shop for $16.oo total, a pack of 10 blades costs $3.oo, and a bar of soap costs $1.oo.

He is basically the most dapper, handsome, and creative man I could have ever fallen in lurve with.

--------

By the way, what is the female version of dapper, you ask? Va Voom.

Joan Harris, previously Holloway.

Something new

I am going to start a weekly pin post.

If you look to the left, you’ll see my “Follow my Pins” Badge right above the awesome Inception quote. You have to say that as if I’m a tour guide.

Pinterest is an online catalogue of any picture you’d find on the internet. People “Pin” what they think is interesting, and other people can see that and “Re Pin” it. You can also follow people, and see the most popular pins, and what people are saying about them. It’s like Twitter and Photobucket put together, just a lot cooler.

It’s genius. It’s like a virtual pin board to keep track of all my ideas, about everything. I made my own categories, along with the ones that are preset.

I’ll post a quote, an animal, some type of clothing, and something awesome.

I hope what little followers I have will enjoy my Pinterest posts, as much as I enjoy pinning them.

Have you seen the digital short for snl called “Andy and Pee Wee’s night out”?

HIGH-larious.

Fun fact- My husband loved Pee Wee as a child, he laughed so hard while watching this video…and at that picture.

Oh another fact, but no surprise (and not fun) I’m sick. It’s a cold, and not as bad as that past ones but a cold nonetheless. Boo.

I had the best day with you.

Yesterday, I spent the whole day with Brad. Needless to say^^^

Morning: Picked up an uh-mazing array, yes, array, of fruits and veggies for $15.00! Bountiful Baskets, anyone?

snow, snowman, daycare 112-1

Mid-morning: Made delicious omelets with said vegetables while watching Lost, silently wishing Locke and Jack would morph into Don and Sterling.

Noon: Cleaned our apartment.

Afternoon: Spent an hour in a tiny Antique Shop in Rigby. Tried on two dresses, four skirts, got stuck in a shirt, and ended up leaving with two pairs of earrings. Brad said I looked like Peggy from Mad Men with the skirts, so I opted not to. His also said “That dress is too young for you” and I said “Hogwash. I’m only 20 years old.” That owner thought that was pretty funny. My man has a way with words. But to give him credit, it was a red corduroy jumper.

Speaking of, Brad has been talking about finding a vintage razor for weeks. Literally, he found three sets at this shop. Guess who is the proud new owner of this baby? Neet-o. This is what we call, a good buy baby.

earrings, soup 008

After-Afternoon: Finally met Brad’s Uncle Ben, his girls, and Brad’s Cousin Megan and her husband Sterling at Wal Mart.

Evening: Bought TWO pairs of Joe’s jeans for…hold onto something sturdy, $50.00 total. I saved $200 big ones! Don’t pass out, as I nearly did. That’d be embarrassing.

After that transaction: Brad found the men’s section of the store. Go figure, on our way out. He bought a light jacket for $2.50, retailed at $80.00. Aaaand, I found the accessories. As in, a gray belt and a faded nautical scarf.

30 Minutes Later: Met eight of our awesome friends at Wingers for some sticky fingers! Brad and I were converted, thanks Chase and Ali for introducing us!

Night: Put on what snow attire we had as in, layers and layers, some hotties and plastic bags on our feetsies (Hey I’m Chandler- Could I be wearing anymore clothes?) Sledding! That’s what we did. Yes, I went outside in the snow…to play. It was lots of fun, and after we had yummy hot peppermint cocoa and played Apple to Apples. Well, they played, I beat everyone. It’s always the quiet ones.

Thanks for the best day.

Home for the Holidays and a Birthday!

Bradley and I went home for Christmas! It was so good to be home! We spent a lot of time with family it was nice. The flight was a little rocky- no turbulence or anything…I just haven’t been on a plane since I was very young. I had a mini panic attack during take off, Brad was great though! Asking me to look out the window saying it’d make me feel better.

My parents flew up from Texas, and Brandon and Genevieve and little Vivienne drove from Spokane as well. She has gotten so big! I’m glad they moved out of Utah, so we can see them more often! Her and Lydia are so cute playing together!

Brad is a Christmas Eve Baby! He turned 23! We celebrated his birthday with his family by going out to breakfast, and then with mine at The Rabens for Christmas Eve dinner. I got him the Family Guy Star Wars Trilogy. I know, I’m a cool wife. But I will admit, it was selfish. I wanted them too.

Brad and I got each other a very modest amount of gifts, it’s our first Christmas and it’s about about the presents anyway. I got brad a video game he had been wanting, and he got me a computer game I had been wanting and a perfume I've been wanting forever. We saw the last bottle at the store, and he grabbed it as we were walking away without letting me notice, that little trickster.

My Mother and Father in law totally spoiled us. I got a Kindle! Brad got a new cell phone and on top of that, they got us a printer/scanner! Talk about being technologically up to date! Now brad and I won’t have to go to the school’s library to print out important documents. Because seriously, that walk in the snow? Get real.

While we were enjoying the fresh air in Washington, our apartment froze. Literally. Our door was frozen shut, Brad shoulder rammed that thing so hard. We had to blow dry it the next day it get it to shut all the way! Brad also noticed, get this, FROST on our cans in our LAZY Susan. Just thought I’d clarify that it’s a Lazy Susan. Not Lady Susan, as I’ve been referring it as for two days. Thanks spell check!

I started going back to work yesterday, and let me tell you. I am exhausted. Today especially since I covered my class in the afternoon too. It was good, but it will take a couple days to get things back to normal. I taught them a new song that brad taught me on our drive home from Boise. My kids call it the lemon song, and it’s about if the rain were lemon drops and gum drops. The end is their favorite because I’ll stick out my tongue and sing the tune.

There was a lot of haircutting while I was home, which was good because I like doing it, but it felt like that’s what I spent our visit doing. Maybe next time I’ll forget my shears haha, just kidding…maybe? Overall it was a great trip and I can’t wait to go back! I’ll post pictures later, I didn’t really take any ]:

By the way, Thanks Levi and Steph for the first season of Mad Men! We watch two episodes a night, thanks for feeding our new addiction!

Bragging and my hero

My sisters family pictures, so pretty!

And Lydia is just a walking, talking, cheese ball- I can just imagine what's going on in these pictures.

I love how animated she is! and they are having another in April, just a boy version!

I can't wait to see steph, levi, and booger and the rest of my family this Christmas!

ps- I cut my sisters hair, fyi

pps- this has been then month of sickness. I've had the cold, with the worst congestion(it felt like my face was cracking in half) and last weekend I had a migraine for three days, and now I have the flu! my poor husband, he's so good at taking care of me. and since my inner child comes out when I'm sick, it's not an easy task. He got me anti-nausea medicine, pink pepto chewables, chicken noodle soup, popsicles, ginger ale and two new fishies for our fish tank (pictures to come.) Except those weren't for me, that's just what happens when he goes to wal mart by himself. My mother says he deserves a purple heart. Which he does, considering he listening to me sob like a baby for three hours* because I didn't want to throw up. *not my shining moment.

and now my hero is sick too, just not with the flu, thankfully. He has a sore throat, he said "it feels like gravel." Now it's my turn to take care of him, now that I'm not puking.

I just love him to pieces.

that's not my name :]

My name isn't teacher. The toddlers at the daycare are accustomed to having unfamiliar faces in and out, like subs. I've been their constant teacher for about a month now, and I'm planning on being there a long time. So I figure they should know my name.

Every time I hear, "Teeeacher" I sing "That's not my name" by the ting tings. just kidding. But really I say that and they giggle and get bashful and say "Hay-yee" It gets me every time. As much as I dislike icky diapers and crusty noses, I love going to work.

Today, one of my boys as holding onto my leg and I hear him say to another boy, "MY HEY-YEE!" haha! The other responded the same, I told them to share. They love me :] It's nice having the approval of eight smiling, messy, giggling, sometimes gumpy, faces. That way, we won't have to have our own for awhile haha.

Oh and potty training is hard, props to those parents out there doing it right now.

Anyway, Brad and I are doing good. He's taking tests all the time, I work all the time. We keep busy. Excited to go home for christmas!! ahh!

Hunger games update: I'm almost done reading catching fire for the second time. I am trying to figure out who I side with. Katniss obviously, is my favorite character but when it comes to Gale and Peeta I am not quite sure who I'm rooting for. Reading catching fire the second time I am noticing a lot of things I didn't pick up before, or feelings I didn't imagine from their perspective. It was definitely a good idea, I am just excited this time as I was the first time. But overall, I am leading towards gale :]

As of late...

I got a full time job
Brad changed his major
I got a new* car
Brad has been taking the wrong classes for two semesters
WE are getting another Niece/Nephew!!!
My parents are moving :[
The Hunger Games

I have been working at Apple Tree Learning Center as a sub the past few weeks. I love it, but I disliked being woken at 5am to come in last minute because a teacher got sick. But I don't have to worry about that anymore because they offered me a full time teaching position! I am the new morning teacher for the 2 year olds. I think they're called the "apple dumplings" Each class has an apple name, it's cute :] I will get 35 minimum hours a week, but if someone asks me to sub for the afternoon I can always get more. I'll have a class of six, and I'll make weekly lessons plans and attempt to stick with the schedule as much as possible :] When I first trained I went to each room for a 1/2 hour and when I got to this class I knew it's where I wanted to end up. They respond to their name, love to help, and sit at the table for meals when asked-but don't get me wrong, I'm not doubting I'll see their terrible twos attitude. I got hired at the right time because that teacher ended up telling me she was putting in her two weeks and that she wanted me to take over her class. The other teachers talked to the director and raved about me (Let me have my shining moment here, please) and the director was impressed so she offered me the position!

Anywho, Brad had a nagging feeling he needed to go change his major. He was declared as Health Science, but now he is an official Health Administrator Major. In the process he found out that BYUI didn't have record of his Associates degree on his grad report. So they sent him to records and sure enough, they had it but just didn't add it to his report. THEREFORE, Brad has been taking the WRONG foundations classes! For two semesters! Which basically means he's been working on a 2nd associates!!! And that since he changed his major, some of his classes won't switch over. But that's not byu's fault, that's just what happens when you are figuring out what you want to do when you grow up. This was the same day I was offered my job. Good news and bad news day. I cried because I was so upset when brad told me that the only class he needs currently this semester is Book of Mormon. He's been studying hard and trying to figure out what his anatomy and physiology teacher is trying to teach, only to find out he doesn't need it anymore. And he can't drop his classes because he'll be put on academic probation, or get W's (getting a class waived) on his grad report. And that won't look good when we go to get his masters. So were going to try and see what classes he will be reimbursed for, because byui made a big mistake.

I can't drive a stick. End of Story. I panic, lose focus, and cry. All of which added together=anxiety. We ended up selling brads honda, to someone in a neighboring apartment complex. So we can still go say hi when brad misses it. We sold it for the same cost that we bought our new* car for. New as in '98 pontiac sunfire. I love it, it is an automatic! Sure, there's a crack in the windshield, the paint bubbled, the vents are missing, the front two hubcaps are gone and it barks when it turns on but it's mine and it gets me to work :]

My sister is pregnant again! I hope it's a boy, I hope it's a boy, I hope it's a boy. That's my good thought mantra for a boy. We need a baby boy in the family! She gets her ultrasound next month and I have it marked on our cat calendar. But regardless of what she has that baby will be just as spoiled as the rest!

And lastly, my parents are moving :[ They are moving back to ft worth, tx. My dad got a job there, which is a good thing buuuut I won't see them as much when we come home to visit :[ I hope my mom enjoys texas more than she did last time! I love you guys!

Brad's Aunt Belinda is the closest person to family here, She knows how to take care of us! She's letting me borrow her Hunger Games book. I can't put it down! I read part 1 in 24 hours and I've forced myself to reread it because I am picky when it comes to books that I can't put down and I want to savor this! So I havent gotten to the actual hunger games part yet but I am picking up things that I missed the first-half-way-time-through. Needless to say, I LOVE IT!

Anyhoo, We never posted pictures of our apartment! Except the kitchen kinda. I don't think we'll be here next year and I have a sneaking feeling the next one won't be as nice.

Kitchen, where I am blogging from:

Living room, where we watch lots and lots of movies, and currently brad is watching a superman cartoon:
Bathroom, where we have 12 minutes of hot water, and a million of my products:

Brad's study room, and his make shift desk:
Oh and a couple weeks ago we had a picnic! We packed sandwiches, granola bars, applesauce, and fruit and went to the sand dunes in St Anthony :] It was warm, but we found a shady spot by the water..which meant dragonflies, lots of dragonflies.

He is just so handsome! He doesn't like healthy applesauce :]

Crafts, Bowling, Pennies, Shirts, Golf, and home made juice!

So, last Saturday it was my mothers birthday!!! I miss her so much, you never realize how much you need your mom until you're expected to not need her anymore. In my case, it was getting married. I still need my mama :[ I call her almost every other time I make dinner. "How do I cook frozen hamburger?" was one of my first phone calls haha. So to show her how much I love and miss her, I made her a fancy watch bracelet :]I love you mom! I miss you and dad so much! I can't wait to come home for christmas! So we live by the train tracks, very close actually. We had just gotten home from getting delicious Millhollow frozen yogurt and we hear the horn coming. All of a sudden, brad leaps from the couch to the other room and runs out the door. I knew instantly what he was doing. He had grabbed a couple pennies, to see if the train would flatten them and how much. The train flattened them like this:
They got pretty flat, it's impressive...christmas presents anyone? haha just joking. So that night we decided to have a little date night so we went to this movie theater/bowling alley/arcade called Fat Cats. We didn't have impressive scores, brad won but I got the one and only strike :]!
This ball was only 7 lbs...clearly, you can tell I'm struggling.
The afterwards....
The first was mine, I always get All Lovin No Oven: Cake batter ice cream, chocolate, cookie dough, and whip cream. Brad's was halfway gone before I got to take a picture of his haha. He always gets, Birthday Cake Remix: Cake batter ice cream, brownie, sprinkles and whip cream. They are both delicious, and I refuse to find out how many calories I consume every time we go :]

Guess who likes to golf? well, I like to go to the driving range. Brad got us a big bucket of golf balls and taught me how to use a driver, a number five? and a putter. I am not really sure, they all look the same to me. It was nearly 100 that day, and no clouds so it was hot!

Notice in this picture, how I didn't hit the ball? That happened a lot.Brad was such a good golf teacher, he is very patient and explained everything very well. I even hit one ball past the 150 sign, for real!

As for dinner, a couple that I made that we really liked were:
Chicken Fajitahs!Chicken Milanese with Spaghetti!
Brad said this was the best thing I've made so far. It really was sooo good, he asked for it the next night too haha!

One of the gifts from my parents that we got was a Jack Lallane's Power juicer. We went to the store and bought apples, carrots, oranges, strawberries, bananas, watermelon, lemons, limes, white nectarines, wheat grass, spinach, and mango's. The first time we pretty much did all of them but watermelon, mango's, wheat grass and spinach. It did not taste good, it was so lemony and sour! It tasted like sour lemonade but looked like carrot juice. So we went to the gym and when we got back we put the juice in a blender with yogurt, ice and a banana. It was sooo good!

We like juice at our place haha :]
So another thing we did last week was make our own shirts! We had brandon, travis, chase and his wife, ali come over and we got shirts and spray paint from wal mart. We all did different things with tape and stencils. Brad cut out a horse for his, and I hole punched construction paper and used that as a stencil. And for the back I twisted it up into a little cone and sprayed painted it to make it look tye dye. Brad made another the other day but I'll post it for next weeks blog. he was also very proud of that one.

That was pretty much our week, it was lots of fun :] Missing everyone at home, we love you guys!
